Violin & Guitar is comprised of two local Vancouver-based musicians, Renée Cook and Stephen Bulat. Together, they have a combined total of over 35 years of experience in performing both as soloists and as part of larger ensembles.

Violin & Guitar personally administer all facets of your musical requirements, and aim to exceed and perform beyond expectation. They take careful note that each event is unique and memorable in its own way, ensuring that your occasion is treated with the utmost attention and respect that it deserves.

Violin & Guitar service the following areas of British Columbia:

Born and raised in New Westminster, British Columbia, Renée Cook has been entertaining the Greater Vancouver area with her violin for 23 years. She played with the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra for 12 years, and has toured Australia and Russia.

Locally, Renée has been the Concert Mistress for musical productions such as Royal City Musical Theatre’s Hello Dolly, Gypsy, The Sound of Music, Carousel, and The Music Man; Theatre Under The Stars’ Kiss me Kate, Anne of Green Gables, and Orphan Annie; and for James Productions’ Christmas Pops 2002, 2003, and 2004.

Renée can also be heard on several local recordings including the Vancouver mandolin group The Melodious Mandolins, Theatre Under the Stars’ recording of Summer Nights, as well as the Vancouver Cast Recording of The Rocky Horror Show.

Renée also recently made her acting and singing debut in the Canadian Premiere of Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of the War of the Worlds at the Vancouver Planetarium in Fall 2005. Finally, Renée is also a member of the 5-piece wedding dance band, Guilty Pleasure.




Stephen Bulat
has been playing guitar for over 30 years and has performed in a vast array of ensembles. He studied composition and jazz studies at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and Capilano College in North Vancouver, BC and continues to be an active musical director, composer and performer in the Vancouver theatre community.

Stephen has lead orchestras and played banjo, mandolin, ukulele and guitar for such shows as The Rocky Horror Show, Hedwig & the Angry Inch, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Jessie Richardson Awards, Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of the Worlds and West Side Story.

Stephen is also the owner & operator of Mix Media Productions Inc., an audio production and digital recording studio located in Burnaby, BC. He has composed and written original music for various documentaries and films and lead numerous ensembles, including Jazz Trios & Quartets, Broadway Orchestras and Mandolin Ensembles.

Finally, Stephen is also a member of the 5-piece wedding dance band, Guilty Pleasure.
